Welcome

Hey there, we are so happy you stopped by!!!

We can't wait for August 14th to get here.

We just moved into our new condo in the city! So, we have had tons of things to do around the house at the new place. We still have a lot of wedding planning to get done, but we've put down all the information we know as of right now.

Definitely check out the Day of Details and the Location & Hotels tabs. Lake Geneva is a quaint resort town and is very very popular in the summer. Because of this, you will need to book your hotel room pretty far in advance. We would definitely recommend at least putting one on reserve if you are even thinking about coming. That way, if you do end up making it, you'll have a place to stay. If you can't, then just cancel the room in time as to not be charged.

We will be up at the lake for the entire week before the wedding, so there will most likely be some sort of activity or event planned for Saturday the 13th.

Check back from time to time as we add more information to our wedding website. All the details will be posted here for easy access.

Civil Unions in Illinois

Illinois recognizes same-sex unions in the form of civil unions that provide same-sex couples the same rights of marriage under state law.

Civil unions were legalized in Illinois on January 31st, 2011, after Governor Pat Quinn signed legislation, and the law will go into effect on June 1st, 2011. The legislation that legalized civil unions in Illinois also allows opposite-sex civil unions and "reciprocity" recognition of substantially similar legal relationships, including same-sex marriages and civil unions legally entered into in other jurisdictions.

Same-sex marriages cannot be legally entered into in Illinois. The Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act prohibits "marriages between 2 members of the same sex", so same-sex marriages are not recognized as they are held to be contrary to public policy.

Although we are so excited to be living in a place that finally sees us as almost equal, the federal government still will not recognize our union. This is a huge step in the right direction, but still keeps us seperate and not equal.

It's like we can finally get on the bus, but we still have to sit in the back.

We hope to be a positive example of a loving, committed same-sex relationship and that the next time you hear someone say that gays & lesbians don't deserve equal rights, you'll think of us and be our champions.

Food for thought...
